The Azalea Trail Committee is excited to announce that their 3rd annual Azalea Sale will be held on April 22nd from 10AM to 1PM at Riverbend Park in Mount Vernon!
There will be 3 Gallon Regular and Encore variety Azaleas for sale, as well as other flowering and gardening plants for your summer gardening needs. The Dixieland Band will also be there to help us celebrate the sale with some incredible music!
The Azalea Trail Committee was formed in 2010 with a mission to beautify the city, raise community health awareness through exercise, promote tourism and make historic Mount Vernon a more desirable place to live, and thanks to these efforts, the city of Mount Vernon was certified nationally as an “Azalea City” in 2015 by Mr. Buddy
Lee, a nationally known plant breeder and developer of the Encore Azalea.
Beginning in spring of 2012 and every year since, an Azalea sale has been held in Riverbend Park. A portion of the profits from these sales are used to upkeep the city plantings and beautification efforts. Over 1,200 Azaleas have been sold or planted as a result, consequently adding to Mount Vernon’s beauty. In addition, over 1,000 daffodils have been planted in the Tree Terrace. The Azalea Trail Committee is also responsible for the idea of constructing the LED information sign found outside the Park.
The Azalea Trail Committee and the Mount Vernon Garden Club purchased and placed a bronze statue of a boy with his telescope overlooking the Ohio River in 2017. The statue will soon be dedicated and equipped with a plaque during a dedication gathering with the Mayor, Mount Vernon Garden Club, and more.
The Azalea Trail Committee members are excited to continue their efforts of making Mount Vernon a more desirable place to live, play, and enjoy our beautiful city, and proceeds received from the Annual Azalea Sale on April 22nd and future donations will allow them to continue this vision.
