It’s time to get those fishing reels primed and ready! Mount Vernon is excited to once again be part of the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail on May 19! This is the opportunity for catfish anglers to compete for cash, prizes and a chance to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat Classic Championship.
The competition begins at 6:30 AM on May 19th—please note that the rules prohibit any competitors from fishing from midnight to 6:30 AM on the day of the tournament. You’ll have until 3:00 PM to reel in the biggest fish of the day before heading to the weigh-in station at Sherburne Park at 4:00 PM. Anyone who is not in line at the weigh-in station by 4:00 PM will automatically be disqualified.
Anglers may fish the Ohio River from the Newburgh Lock & Dam, South to Smithland Lock & Dam. The Wabash river is also fair game up to the Hwy 62 Bridge.
Late registration will be held Friday, May 18 the day before competition at Police & Fire Station, 311 College Avenue, Mt. Vernon, IN from 5-7 pm. Captains Meeting/Seminar will follow at 7pm. You must be a member of the King Kat Association to fish this event. A one-year membership is $30.00. To pre-register go to our website or call (502) 384-5924.
In conjunction with the tournament the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will hold the Cabela’s King Kat Kids event on Saturday, May 19 at Brittlebank Park, 1470 Brittle Bank Road, Mt. Vernon, IN. The event is free of charge and open to all youth 12 and younger. Sign up is from 8:00 AM till 9:00 AM with the Kid’s Fishing Event starting at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. All children will receive a prize just for entering. All children must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Prizes for winners will be given in two age groups, 0-7 and 8-12.
